New to human hair? Start here.

Buying your first human hair wig or extensions? Read this first. Human hair gives you the versatility, longevity, movement, and natural appearance that make it worth the investment, but it also requires care. Before you purchase, we want every Baibe to understand exactly what human hair is, what it isn't, and what to expect once your hair arrives.

Quick answers for first-timers

Which wig is easiest for a beginner?

Lace-free styles like V-part, U-part, and flip-over half wigs. There's no lace to install, just a small amount of leave-out to blend. Closure and frontal wigs involve lace and take more knowledge to install and maintain.

Compare wig constructions

What's the lowest-maintenance texture?

Straighter and looser textures. The more curl in the pattern, the more moisture, detangling, and refreshing it needs to stay defined.

See maintenance by texture

How do I keep curly hair defined?

The same way you would with natural curls: keep the hair moisturized, detangle gently, and refresh and redefine the curls as they're worn.

Caring for curly hair

Can I use heat on human hair?

Yes, human hair can be heat styled, just like your own hair. Use a heat protectant and keep heat to a minimum to help your hair last longer.

Human hair is not maintenance-free.

A wig or extensions may make parts of your hair routine easier, but purchasing human hair does not eliminate washing, conditioning, detangling, styling, or general upkeep.

First things first: you're buying human hair

Treat it like your own hair. There's no difference.

Think about the hair growing from your scalp. You wash it. You condition it. You detangle it. You use products. You style it. If you have naturally curly hair, you refresh and redefine your curls.

Human hair wigs and extensions need that same care. The exact routine may vary, but there will always be a routine, just like your own hair.

Human hair is just like your own hair

Synthetic hair is manufactured to hold a predetermined texture or style. Human hair is different. It's real human hair, not a permanently styled hairstyle.

Human hair responds to water, products, heat, humidity, washing, manipulation, and everyday wear, just like your own hair. It can:

  • Tangle
  • Shed
  • Frizz
  • Become dry
  • Develop product buildup
  • Lose moisture
  • Need detangling
  • Need washing and conditioning
  • Need to be restyled
  • React differently to different products and techniques

These things do not automatically mean something is wrong with the hair. They're normal characteristics of human hair, and the hair on your head does them too.

The benefit is versatility. Human hair can be washed, styled, refreshed, and cared for again and again, just like your own hair.

Your wig won't automatically arrive “ready to wear”

Unless the product page explicitly says Ready-to-Wear, a wig will not arrive as a finished hairstyle.

Every wig arrives according to the specifications listed on the product page. From there, preparing and styling the hair for the desired look is part of wearing human hair. Depending on the texture and style, that may include:

  • Washing and conditioning
  • Detangling
  • Applying your preferred care and styling products
  • Defining curls
  • Straightening or curling
  • Creating your part
  • Blending leave-out, if applicable
  • Installing or securing the wig
  • Styling the finished look

Think of it the same way you think about your natural hair after wash day. The hair provides the foundation. You create the finished style.

About our photos and videos: the defined curls and finished styles you see have been properly washed, maintained, styled, and defined. Your results at home will depend on your routine, products, technique, and styling.

All hair requires effort

Every texture needs a routine, just like your own hair. Straight hair still needs to be washed, conditioned, detangled, and styled. Curly hair takes a little more effort.

Curly hair

Curly human hair is not a set-it-and-forget-it texture. The curls you see on our website are not permanently frozen into place. Just like naturally curly hair, curly wigs and extensions may need to be:

  • Fully saturated with water
  • Gently detangled
  • Cleansed and conditioned
  • Moisturized
  • Defined with styling products
  • Refreshed between washes
  • Allowed to dry properly

As the hair is worn, curls may lose definition, frizz, tangle together, or become dry. That doesn't necessarily mean the texture has changed or the hair is defective. It may simply be time for a refresh, the same way natural curls need one. How curly hair performs is heavily influenced by how it's cared for.

How much care does your texture need?

As a general rule, the more curl in the pattern, the more care it takes to keep it looking its best. Every texture still needs a routine.

Straight
Lower

Detangles more easily and holds its shape longer between styling. Sleek styles may still need heat to stay that way.

Body wave and loose wave
Moderate

Waves can loosen or frizz with wear and may need to be refreshed or re-set.

Deep wave and curly
Highest

Needs regular moisture, gentle detangling, and refreshing to keep curls defined.

Products matter more than you think

What you put on your hair matters. The wrong routine, or too much product, can leave even high-quality human hair dry, weighed down, coated, tangled, or difficult to manage.

Care for your Baibe Official hair just like your own hair. That means using quality products, properly cleansing product buildup, conditioning the hair, maintaining moisture when needed, and avoiding excessive heat or unnecessary chemical processing.

More product does not always mean more moisture.

Heavy oils, butters, and layers of styling products can create buildup. Sometimes hair that feels dry, heavy, tangled, or difficult to style doesn't need another product. It needs to be properly cleansed and conditioned.

What if I purchase Ready-to-Wear?

Ready-to-Wear is different. A Ready-to-Wear wig may arrive pre-styled and prepared for more immediate wear, based on the specifications listed for that product.

But Ready-to-Wear does not mean permanently styled or maintenance-free. Once you begin wearing and washing the wig, it will still behave like what it is: human hair, just like your own.

Eventually, you'll need to wash it, condition it, detangle it, and refresh or restyle it. Curly textures will need to be redefined. Straight styles may need heat styling again.

Ready-to-Wear gives you a head start. It does not eliminate future maintenance.

New to wigs? Your wig is the product, not the installation.

Purchasing a wig and knowing how to wear or install a wig are two different things. Depending on the construction you choose, your wig may need to be secured, installed, blended, or customized to your preferences. Some constructions are easier for beginners than others.

V-part, U-part, and flip-over half wigs
The most beginner-friendly option. There's no lace to install. These are worn with a small amount of natural hair left out, so the leave-out just needs to be blended and maintained.
Closure wigs
Include a lace closure, which means there's lace to secure, blend, and maintain.
Frontal wigs
The most styling versatility across the hairline, and generally the most knowledge required for installation and maintenance.

If you've never installed or worn a wig before, learn about the construction you're purchasing and decide whether you're comfortable installing and styling it yourself or would prefer to work with a professional stylist.

Yes, you still have to maintain your natural hair

Wearing a wig doesn't mean forgetting about the hair underneath. Your natural hair should still be properly cleansed, conditioned, moisturized, and protected.

If you're wearing a style with leave-out, that portion of your natural hair will also need to be maintained and blended with your extensions. Your foundation can affect how your wig looks and fits, so proper preparation underneath matters.

How do I make my hair last?

Human hair does not have one universal lifespan. How long your hair lasts depends heavily on how it's cared for. Frequency of wear, washing routine, styling habits, products, heat exposure, chemical processing, installation methods, detangling, and storage all affect longevity.

To protect your investment

  • Detangle gently and consistently.
  • Wash the hair when it needs to be washed.
  • Properly condition and moisturize the hair.
  • Clarify product buildup when necessary.
  • Use quality products.
  • Minimize excessive heat.
  • Avoid unnecessary chemical processing.
  • Don't let curly hair become excessively dry or matted before detangling.
  • Store removable wigs and extensions properly when you're not wearing them.
  • Follow the recommended care for your specific texture.

Just like your own hair, the better it's cared for, the better chance it has to perform beautifully over time.

Normal human hair behavior vs. a product concern

Because human hair is a natural product, not every change in the hair means there's a quality issue. A maintenance issue is different from a product defect.

Usually normal

  • Some shedding
  • Occasional tangling
  • Frizz
  • Dryness
  • Loss of curl definition
  • Product buildup
  • Needing to detangle or restyle

Our Customer Care Team is available to review your concern.

Before you buy, ask yourself

  • Am I comfortable maintaining human hair?
  • Do I understand the maintenance level of the texture I'm choosing?
  • Do I understand the wig or extension construction I'm purchasing?
  • Am I comfortable styling and installing it myself, or do I need a stylist?
  • Do I have quality products and tools to maintain my hair?

If you're completely new to human hair, don't worry. You can absolutely learn. We simply want you to know what you're purchasing before you begin.

Human hair gives you versatility, not zero maintenance.

Your Baibe Official hair is real human hair. It can be washed, styled, refreshed, and transformed in ways that make it a worthwhile investment.

But just like your own hair, how it looks, feels, performs, and lasts is directly connected to how you care for it. Give your hair the care it deserves, learn the routine that works best for your texture, and enjoy your investment. ♡
